At MyLens.ca, our core values are built around providing our employees, customers, and communities with the ability to experience a healthy lifestyle. Although our key focus is to provide customers with quality and affordable contact lenses and eyewear, we recognize the importance of acknowledging all aspects of health.
From the very beginning, our owners decided that we would work with organizations that provide essential support to our communities. Due to personal experiences with mental health and sick children, we decided to support the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) and the Children’s Heart Network (CHN).
The Canadian Mental Health Association
Sadly, many Canadians have had a first-hand experience with mental health and/or mental illnesses - whether that experience is with a friend, co-worker or even a loved one, the impact is still the same. Mental health organizations are essentially the front line workers of mental health, working day in and day out to provide as much support as they can. Unfortunately, due to underfunding and powerfully negative social stigmas, the support they are able to provide isn’t nearly as much as they strive to give.
Founded in 1918, the CMHA is the most established, most extensive community mental health organization in Canada. Through a presence in more than 330 communities across every province and one territory, CMHA provides advocacy, programs and resources that help to prevent mental health problems and illnesses, support recovery and resilience, and enable all Canadians to flourish and thrive.
The Children’s Heart Network
Families with children who have congenital heart disease are often overwhelmed with a wave of emotions, especially when they first find out that their child has been diagnosed with this illness. This spectrum of emotions is even more amplified if their child also has other existing medical conditions like autism, down syndrome and williams syndrome. Their lives are changed forever, having to learn to cope with the news, searching for answers and seeking professional opinions on what the next steps are. Parents often feel they are lost and alone during this life changing experience.
The Children’s Heart Network is a B.C. provincial non-profit organization that helps families affected by congenital heart disease so they don't have to face the journey alone. They offer support, information and educational programs to families, children, and youth who are living with acquired or congenital heart disease (CHD). The Children’s Heart Network also has a range of fun social events for the families, providing opportunities for the families to connect and support one another.
How are donations made?
With each purchase, 5% of the order total is set aside towards our donation amount for each organization. At the end of each calendar year, these amounts are donated.
We also want you to be a part of the decision making! At the time of your order, you get to choose which cause you would like us to contribute the 5% donation to. Don’t worry if you’re uncertain on which cause to donate to. At the end of the year, we will equally distribute any undecided donations to each organization.
